Chapter 1
The Life of the Flesh is in the Blood
Medicine is of all the Arts
the most noble; but, not withstanding,
owing to the ignorance of those who
practice it, and of those who,
inconsiderately, form a judgment of them, it
is at present far behind
all the other arts. Hippocrates, The
Law, 400 BC
Many centuries ago the philosopher from the Shakya clan who was known as the Buddha rightly observed that all of life is comprised of suffering, disease, old age and death. What he did not understand was that these were not the natural state of mankind, but were the result of the fall of man, which took place thousands of years ago when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and brought sin into the world, along with concomitant suffering.
Thus disease, along with aging and eventually death will be the lot of man until the return of the Lord, when disease and death will finally be abolished. Until that time, we are besought with infirmities throughout our brief lives here on earth and must learn to cope with them. The picture must not be too bleak however, for our Lord, in His providence, has given us many remedies with which to ease our ills, so that if learned and practiced dutifully the majority of people for much of the span of their lives may be able to withstand the onslaughts of disease and live healthy, productive and hopefully Godly lives with which to prepare a good foundation for their eternal destiny.
Thus physical health, while not the ultimate goal of life, which is to pursue virtue and to glorify God, is still a highly esteemed prize to be sought after, and once achieved should be sustained with all diligence.
Today's medical establishment does little to maintain good health; what they do is deal with someone who has already fallen victim to a disease and then they generally will only treat the symptoms of the disease, or else resort to surgery to cut out the diseased portion of the body, but they rarely will find out what the root cause of disease was in the first place. Part of the problem is that doctor's have an imperfect understanding of the basis for good health, and no overall theory of the causes and conditions effecting disease; hence they cannot provide an adequate and long lasting cure for many of our ills.
Let us first of all lay down some general principles. Disease means the lack of "ease" or harmony in the body. It means that you are suffering from a malady, the root word mal meaning bad, or evil. It is when you are unwell. The word ease also means comfort, and relief from difficulty and pain. Thus wellness, fullness of life, freedom from malady should be the goal of all medical practice. How to achieve this goal will be the subject of this book.
I want to mention something else at the beginning.
Today there is a burgeoning health care industry, and along with it are the
moneychangers seeking to make profit from human misery. Just as there are many
"get rich quick" schemes flooding the electronic airways, so there are many "Get
well quick" schemes floating about. We have white coated "faith healers" selling
annointed oil and special "blessed" healing water and "anointed cloths" for a
price. Watch out for these scoundrels, whom the Lord described as wolves in
sheeps clothing. The word of God says "Freely you have received, freely give".
When the lame begger asked the apostles for some change, Peter said "Silver and
gold have I none, but in the name of Jesus Christ get up and walk!" Those who
charge for that which the Lord has freely given, and those who are selling
prayers and anointed healing charms in the name of the Lord are guilty of
simony, and are taking the name of the Lord in vain. On the day of judgement it
will be more tolerable for the Scribes and Pharisees who condemned the Lord
than it will be for them.
Health care should be a basic human
right, however I understand that we all have to make a living, and without
the internet it would be hard to disseminate this information without the
cooperation of a publisher, and this means funding, and that must be through
willing consumers who want to purchase the information. Those who grow and
culture herbs used for our healing, as well as those in the natural
health care industry provide a valuable service and there is nothing
wrong with charging a legitimate fee for their services.
I would suggest
that your local small health food store has probably done more to save lives
than the nearby hospital complex that is charging millions of dollars to the
government and the community for their services.
Modern
medicine sees disease today chiefly, almost
exclusively, in terms of pathology and a struggle for existence, which
is a holdover from Darwin's "survival of the fittest" theory. According to
this theory, all of life is in a great struggle for survival, with fish
struggling against other predator fish, flora seeking to choke out their
competition in the plant kingdom, bacteria fighting each other in the protista
kingdom, and bacteria fighting against man in the struggle for biological
supremacy on this planet.
Along with this is the evolutionary viewpoint that
the body is merely an accident of nature, that there was no direct
intelligence involved in man's creation, and that if there are any healing
properties to be found in the body's physiological function aside from such
obvious ones as blood clotting and the regrowth of skin, then these must be mere
incidental sidenotes in our overall evolution and not the result of a divine
plan.
In addition if there are any healing agents found out in the
wild, these are accidental and not providential agents for our healing, and
consequently must be rare, and in their natural form would not be as effective
as a pharmaceutically modified form stripped of the phytohormones and
phytochemicals found in the natural state.
Now we know that pathogens do exist and that one important element of medicine involves the pathological understanding of disease. Throughout history we have had and continue to have outbreaks, plagues, flu and cold epidemics, ebola and AIDS infections. The man who founded the modern science of pathology, Louis Pasteur, was a confirmed creationist who vigorously opposed Darwin's theory and disproved the old theory of spontaneous generation (modern term "abiogenesis"). He gave us the modern science of inoculation, based on Jenner's work, and developed the germ theory.
There are definitely a variety of diseases that are caused by pathogens, and virology is a valid aspect of modern science, however it is not the only aspect of how disease is caused, and it is not purely from contact with a pathogen that we derive an illness. For one thing, pathogens surround us all the time, and while many people do fall ill to them, others in the very same environment may remain untouched by symptoms.
In addition, a pharceutically modified substance
used to fight a disease may not in all cases be better than the natural
alternative, considering one takes into account the providential understanding
of nature and of the healing properties of different flora in nature's
garden.
This is not a hard and fast rule; some isolated plant chemicals
can produce superior effects, however there is the incentive involved here to
patent the substance and claim exclusive rights to
it. This is what many pharmacy industries have done and made a handsome
profit from it
When I was on my deathbed, the victim of irresponsibly reckless and negligent doctors who then sent me home to die, I knew that I needed to take matters into my own hands, or rather put my life back into the Lord's hands. I prayed and asked God what to do. The verse that came into my mind was "The life of the flesh is in the blood" (Lev 17:11)
I suspected that I was probably suffering from a systemic infection that seemed to have spread throughout my entire body, stemming primarily from an abscessed tooth that infected my blood, and then from a botched prostate biopsy that possible punctured my colon and urinary canal, causing fecal matter to infect my blood and waste material to enter my system and infect my kidneys.
I understood that the kidneys are primarily responsible for purifying the blood of waste materials, and if they cannot do their job properly, such as when the urinary canal does not work properly and uric acid accumulates in the body, then this can lead to a toxic condition where the body is poisoned by it's own uric acid. It seemed to me that I needed to purge my system of the toxins that had accumulated in it to give my body a chance to heal itself. I needed to cleanse my blood of the infection that was poisoning my entire system.
Since the medication that I was using was only making me sicker, I threw all of it out and went on a four day water fast, then a juice fast for about a week, then I was a vegetarian for most of the next year. Within days of the fast I was able to urinate normally and there was a dramatic improvement in my health. My body was telling me something. The inflamation in my kidneys decreased dramatically and the pain in my prostate began to diminish and became occasional instead of constant.
Now, none of this was the result of anything the
doctors had done for me. They had practically killed me with their junk medicine
and also put me in debt for my visits to the local hospital over a two year
period.
No doctor had ever bothered to ask me what I ate, or even seemed
concerned about my diet, even prior to my illness. This is odd, when you
consider that if you take a domestic pet or farm animal to the vet, one of the
first things he might ask is "What is your animal eating?"
But how often do doctors ask that simple question of patients? Rarely, if at all, since they are not taught extensively on the benefits of nutritional medicine in college. They are taught about the typical pathological methodology of diagnosing disease, but not about the body's ability to heal itself given the right nutrients.
